Hyperion Version considerations

Do you use the Hyperion EPM/BA suite of products?
Thinking of upgrading your web browsers to Internet Explorer 9?
Do you want true high availability for your Hyperion system?
Is the general health of your Hyperion system in question?

Things you need to consider if you have one of the following Hyperion versions installed:

Version 9.x

  • If you are currently running Hyperion 9.x, then the chances are highly likely that you will be using Windows Server 2003 which is out of extended support from Microsoft. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you to consider moving to a later version of Windows (2008) which is supported unitl 14/01/2020.
  • Versions 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3.x are also out of support with Oracle. Therefore, any new software bugs that are discovered on these versions will not be fixed. Instead, the vendor will recommend that you upgrade to a supported version.
  • The foundation layer is a single point of failure. Therefore, it is not possible to have a truly highly available system if required. This has been addressed in the later versions (11.1.2.x) where Oracle has removed the dependency on the OpenLDAP service which was responsible for this restriction.

Version 11.1.1.x

  • Hyperion 11.1.1.3 is not compatible with Internet Explorer 9. In this situation, the quickest path for compatibility is to upgrade to 11.1.1.4. This is not considered as a major upgrade release and should not require additional hardware.
  • Hyperion 11.1.1.x products are only available in 32 bit mode. Therefore, it is not possible to benefit from utilising the additional memory that the 64 bit editions of Hyperion allow you to access.
  • As per version 9.x, the foundation layer for 11.1.1.x is a single point of failure. Therefore, it is not possible to have a truly highly available system if required. This has been addressed in the later versions (11.1.2.x) where Oracle has removed the dependency on the OpenLDAP service which was responsible for this restriction.

Version 11.1.2.1

  • Hyperion 11.1.2.1 is not compatible with Internet Explorer 9 by default. In order to address this issue, you will need to apply a series of service fixes and redeploy the necessary Java applications.

Version 11.1.2.2

  • The base install of this version contains a long list of known defects. Most of these have now been addressed in the latest patch set updates (PSUs) for each of the relevant products. This is a significant system update deployed using Oracle’s oPatch utility.

Free non-obligatory health check

As part of a free non-obligatory health check, we can assess your requirements to help you plan the best way to deal with any of the above concerns that you may have. In addition to this, we can also address the following items:

Version check

Do you know what version of Hyperion or Windows you’re currently on? Do you know when the vendors support for this version expires (if not already)?

DR solution status review

Do you have a DR solution? If not, do you need one and what requirements should it meet? If you have a solution, how reliable is it and when was it last tested?

Migration approach

Do you have applications that require a migration of the application artefacts between environments.

Performance

Is your environment performing adequately? If not, has it been optimised to its maximum potential? Are you carrying out the necessary proactive maintenance tasks on your applications to avoid performance issues?

Support & Maintenance

Do you have an existing support agreement to look after your systems? Are you happy with your existing support agreement?
